Micole Atkins Kirkland, Ed.D., education researcher and technical assistance provider at SRI, works within the Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy Center) to support State Education Agencies (SEA) in uncovering and addressing data quality issues and disparities. Prior to joining SRI, she served as the Early Childhood Project Manager at the Center for Leadership Disability at Georgia State University (GSU), where she oversaw and coordinated all early childhood projects. Dr. Kirkland is a content expert in the areas of early childhood, special education, workforce development/retention, and the provision of services to individuals with disabilities. Dr. Kirkland has more than 20 years of experience serving students in both general and special education in various capacities in large metropolitan LEAs. Additionally, she continuously collaborates with early childhood partners locally and nationally to develop and advocate for the improvement of services provided to young children with disabilities through serving on committees, councils, task forces, and planning teams. She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and degrees in Learning Disabilities and Early Childhood Education.
